*** CLIA INSPECTION ALERT ***
We have learned that CMS has modified its rules governing High Complesity Testing in the Mohs laboratory.
Up until recently CMS did not consider inking and mapping to be High Complexity Testing, but only the specimen removal and
slide reading portions of the Mohs procedure which are always performed by the Mohs surgeon. NOW, Inking and Mapping are considered
High Complexity Testing and is included in thier rule about Grossing biopsies for processing to produce permanent biopsy
H&E slides. This means that from now on, CLIA inspectors will be checking educational requirements for technicians who
are performing Inking and Mapping. Call and request more information on these new requirements. This means that now,
if a technician does not meet the educational requirements for High Complexity Testing under CLIA, the Mohs surgeon must ink
and map the specimen. There is no written rule governing this compliance issue at the present time. Keep us in mind if you
need assistance with trainiing or CLIA and OSHA compliance issues. We will be glad to help you stay in compliance
with CLIA!
